CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 1933 AND MAY 1934 BY ‘CONCRETE KING’ SIDNEY LITTLE THE ALLEY HAS 113 COLUMNS WHICH OPEN OUT TO THE SEA AND CONCRETE PANELS EMBEDDED WITH TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PIECES OF GLASS, GIVING THE SPACE ITS NAME, ON ITS NORTH SIDE.

As artists ZEROH have had an 8 year creative relationship with Bottle Alley through various interventions designed to make the space a desirable destination using its unique attributes to create atmosphere and a welcoming environment for all. After 2 years of negotiations with Hastings Borough Council ZEROH have been given permission and support to hold further interventions and events as Artists in Residence in Bottle Alley, initially, through to Summer 2025.

Initial plans for the first year include the reinstatement of the artwork ‘Wavelength’, the first Bottle Alley Art Market (BAAM) and more music to light shows in coming winter months. All aspects of the work ZEROH do in Bottle Alley over the next 2 years will involve the communities of Hastings and St.Leonards.

Bottle Alley has become an iconic feature of Hastings, representing its history and resilience.
It stands as a testament to the town’s ability to preserve and revitalize its cultural heritage
for future generations to enjoy.
