BECOME PART OF WAVELENGTH

Created by artists Daniel Hardiker and Neil Hetherington, aka ZEROH, and originally conceived as a temporary installation, commissioned by Hastings arts festival Coastal Currents in 2017, ‘Wavelength’ received an overwhelmingly positive public response and became an accidental long term fixture – for many during that time it became synonymous with the 480 meter walk between Hastings and St Leonards. However, despite the best intentions and efforts of the artists, the Council and the Foreshore Trust, it became impossible to continually restore the paint work so the columns were sadly whitewashed and upkeep of the once radiant South side of the alley was all but abandoned.

Now, thanks again to the support of local family run firm Trade Paints and the generosity of Leyland Trade, along with permission and support from Hastings Borough Council the artwork will return with a new lease of life. Bolstered by the public’s dismay at losing the public artwork ZEROH have conceived a plan to work with a team of volunteers from the local community to repaint the columns this summer. They will also manage a column maintenance scheme that will help lovers and supporters of Bottle Alley to do their bit to repaint columns as needed, throughout the seasons, for the next two years. ZEROH are offering an opportunity for individuals to get involved with the upkeep of the coloured columns via several volunteer-led painting days.
